More than 13.8 million South Africans go hungry every day. FoodBank SA collects edible surplus food from manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, and redistributes this food to hundreds of verified NPO’s that collectively feed thousands of hungry people daily.

FoodBank launching new name – FoodForward SA!
While name may have changed, commitment to addressing hunger in South Africa remains steadfast. FoodForward SA’s mandate is to collect edible surplus food from manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers, and redistributes this food to hundreds of verified NPOs that collectively feed thousands of hungry people across South Africa.
FoodBank Foundation UK
FoodBank Foundation UK — a registered charity — is the UK fundraising arm of FoodForward South Africa. Both organisations share the vision of “A South Africa without hunger or malnutrition”. FoodForward South Africa currently sources and distributes food to approximately 175,000 people daily who would otherwise live in hunger or fear of starvation.
With support from their Patrons and Trustees, FoodBank Foundation UK use its skills, expertise and passion for South Africa to raise awareness of and support the outstanding work that FoodForward South Africa does. With over 600,000 South Africans in the UK and many UK citizens with links to South Africa, we are optimistic that there will be support in helping to feed the hungry in SA.
FoodBank Foundation UK is seeking to engage with individuals, companies and community organisations who are linked to South Africa and who will support fundraising events and build partnerships with mutual benefits to raise awareness of the food insecurity in South Africa and support FoodForward SA’s contribution to reducing hunger and malnutrition.
FoodForward SA Programmes include
FoodbankFood Rescue: Sourcing, collecting, sorting, storage and distribution of surplus edible food to verified NPOs.
Virtual FoodBanking: Linking our member BOs to the closest participating retail store for the daily collection of fresh produce, bakery goods, and other essential products.
Food Development: More than 85% of our BOs are involved in skills development / remedial work. We also support emerging farmers by purchasing their produce, and offer a range of nutritious and delicious easy to prepare meals for large-scale school feeding / community feeding programmes.
Food Management: We implement large-scale feeding programmes in schools and communities on behalf of government / corporate donors wishing to make a difference.
